Seven artists, three Italian and four Irish, invite you to see their recent works. The provocation consists in inviting the visitors to discover by themselves the links and the cultural differences which characterize these artists and their works.

JEAN DOYLE, PAOLA CATIZONE, PAOLO PALLARA, FABIO DALL’OLIO, MADDALENA BARLETTA, MARIAN REILLY, IRENE BARRY, ADRIENNE M. FINNERTY are the artists who will welcome you at the vernissage.

Visitors should bear in mind that these artists live astride Ireland and Italy and their paintings reflect this dual artistic and cultural background.

The exhibition will continue until Thursday 16th October.

The exhibition is organized by the Ass.ne IL BARATTOLO from Bologna.

Somatic and Energy Yoga, taught by Paola Catizone and by Nathalie Lerendu, are sensitive approaches to body awareness and intelligent exercise, based on traditional Yoga and expanding into a diversity of movement disciplines. The theme of the day is “Center” relating to the structural center of the body in  experiential anatomy  and also to the notion of centre in  energetic and soulful contexts.

Stephanie is recording the whole series of six sessions photographically. She will put this record on CD and will give one back to WALK at the completion of the project.

The participants are creating a large mixed media piece in response to the work in the galleries, and stephen and myself have given short presentations of our artwork to the group.

WALK service users met Mary last week. She is the head gardener of the amazing French formal gardens in the Museum grounds, Mary was full of stories and gifts of flowers and apples , which the group sampled with great delight.

In the next two remaining weeks they will meet artists in residence in IMMA, after which we will bring the collective art piece back home to be displayed in WALK.

Everyone in Walk has been extremely supportive, especially Brian, our driver/group entertainer, who has made every trip a lot of fun. So thank you IMMA and WALK art group! I look forward to publish the images in this space.

It will be on again (See Notes from the Underworld) next week in Rome and this time I’m going to travel there to see it! Soul indeed moves in mysterious ways, as it is through an old mentor, Dante, that I re visit my town after such a long absence….a short flash of a visit, I will report on return.

Despite displaying none of the trademark attributes of his trendy trade ( like a cool, intellectual look, of elusive gender complete with shaved head and heavy, black framed glasses) Patrizio manages to pull together some excellent art events. He is bringing us to Filmbase for another group show this August. Watch this space for more details.

Maria Laura’s recitation of Dante and Beckett was intense and kept the audience transfixed. Her dramatic presence is truly rare. Her own powerful songs were woven with the poetry .

My images were projected on a screen on the background, working in tune with the poetry and songs. I keep learning from these sessions. I want to develop the presentation so that the screen is larger and the performer is moving within the image. The resolution of the images can also improve and the collaboration with a singer means that I have strong lights to contend with, which can and sometimes does weaken the images, especially the colored ones. I also want to make some more (not many ) more drawings, I seem to have focused more on Dante than on Beckett, so this is a chance for me to read some of the latter’s poetry and to work visually from that. In spite of this, I was satisfied enough with the work, the marriage of words and images really does seem to create something new and it works. It seems that Beckett particularly believed in the need to combine these mediums, to use the directness of images to bypass the more linear , cognitive mind. His plays are often filled with strong visual props.

The little Cafe Theater was packed, in fact we unfortunately had to turn away many people, so we apologise to any of our friends who didn’t get in, we will do it again and we hope that you will give us another try. The event is being shown in Italy (see Divine Comedy) and will return to Dublin soon, watch this space for details.
